Joel K. Straus graduated from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, a branch of the University of California.  He has had his own private law practice in San Mateo County since 1972. His practice has focused primarily on both family law and criminal law throughout its existence. Mr. Straus is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of California, admitted to practice in Federal Court and also admitted to argue before the United States Supreme Court.

In addition to his practice, Mr. Straus has previously been an instructor teaching law at San Francisco State University. He has also served as a Judge Pro Tem of the San Mateo County Superior Court and has served as a private judge. Mr. Straus has been active in the local bar association, has chaired many Bar Committees and has served as President of the San Mateo County Bar Association. At present, the majority of Mr. Straus' practice is focused within San Mateo County.

In the years that the firm has existed, its success has resulted from the ability to represent clients in a dignified and conscientious manner.
